Sonam Kapoor gave us a sneak peek of her red carpet look for the Cannes Film Festival, which will kick off next week in France.
The L'Oreal Ambassador unveiled the L'Oreal Sunset Collection make-up line at a five-star hotel in suburban Mumbai. The look has been inspired by Bollywood over the years.
Sonam will be present at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, her third appearance at Cannes. She will walk down the iconic red carpet the next day.
"I am excited to be walking the red carpet in the opening ceremony. I always walk two red carpets for Cannes and make it a point to wear an Indian outfit on at least one occasion. I had previously worn Masaba Gupta and Anamika. I will wear an Indian outfit for sure for one or both the red carpet events," she said.
The actress has six looks to choose from for the festival and says the looks that L'Oreal Paris has launched are fabulous because they add a modern twist to classic iconic Bollywood looks and are extremely trendy.
"I am completely obsessed with Rekha. I love her dramatic eyes and red lips," Sonam says.
For herself, she says, "I love kajal and eye liner. I feel that dramatic eyes look amazing."
'Aishwarya, Freida and I will not compete on who looks better'
What is her definition of beauty?
"For me, beauty is what is reflected from the inside... it is an expression, which has to come from inside. I feel that emotions make a person beautiful. I am an average-looking girl, but when I smile, I look prettier," Sonam says.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be making her 12th consecutive appearance at Cannes this year. She will also be the guest of honour at a special evening celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema at Cannes on May 19. She will walk the red carpet on May 20.
Freida Pinto will be present at the opening ceremony on May 15 and will attend events on May 16 as well.
"All three of us represent India and we will not compete on who looks better among us. We have Indian skin and use Indian make-up, so if we compare it with white skin, neither side will win," said Sonam.
'I don't think Indian clothes or make-up is subtle'
On Indian clothes, she said, "I don't think Indian clothes or make-up is subtle. I think Indian women like the whole idea of being made up. Indian girls love the drama."
Indian cinema has its own distinct identity, she says. "I think our cinema has a lot of emotion. Even now, when there is world cinema, we have our own identity. I love the fact that there is so much song and drama. I feel that we bring the emotional content to world cinema."
The celebration of 100 years of Indian cinema is special for her because of her family connections.
"My family has been in the film industry for years. My grandfather (Surinder Kapoor) was an assistant director in Mughal-E-Azam and then got into production. My dad (Anil Kapoor) has been there for so long. We are proud to be a part of the industry."
She added, "My celebration was when I got a chance to interview Waheeda Rehman (she worked with her in Delhi 6) for a leading newspaper. She is my icon and I feel she represents Indian cinema."
'I look up to my Aunt Sridevi'

Sonam who was linked to her I Hate Luv Stories director Punit Malhotra, says, "At present, I am single and I don't react to rumours. There is no man in my life. I am happy and fortunate. As of now, my father is the most important man in my life."
Her next film is Anand L Rai's Raanjhanaa where her co-star is South superstar Dhanush.
She is fond of dancing but complains she never gets to showcase her skills onscreen. "I don't get to do Indian dance in my films. I feel bad about it. For Raanjhanaa, I had to beg my director to allow me to dance.
"I look up to my Aunt Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Waheeda Rehman. The way they danced was so beautiful. Today, for a rain dance one will be dressed in short clothes, while earlier, they used to wear a sari. It looked so elegant...pleasant."
In more recent times, it is Katrina Kaif's Chikni Chameli and Deepika Padukone's Dhumtana from the film Om Shanti Om that win her admiration.
