Salman Khan may opt out of hosting duties for the eighth season of reality TV show Bigg Boss. We suggest 10 candidates for the job.

Bigg Boss and controversy is a match made in hell.

Every season brings its share of fights, drama and scandal.

Nothing, however, beats the uproar created in the last season of Colors’ popular reality show hosted by actor Salman Khan.

Khan’s famously reprimanded the likes of Kushal Tandon and Gauahar Khan while nursing a soft corner for Bollywood starlets like Armaan Kohli and Tanishaa Mukerji earned him flak from fans of the show.

Tired of the constantly bickering groups, he even threatened this might be his final stint after successfully hosting four hit seasons. Buzz is the Jai Ho star is all set to be replaced by his friend and colleague Ajay Devgn (though he was rumoured to be against his sister-in-law Tanishaa’s participation on the show) approaching its eighth season.

The low profile, self-effacing actor hero is quite an odd pick for anchoring a show that requires sociability, pizzazz, candour and, basically, Salman Khan. Since it’s still not confirmed, we suggest 10 candidates for the job.

Shah Rukh Khan

If there’s a celebrity who can equal (at times even outclass) Salman’s aura and star power, it’s Shah Rukh Khan.

King Khan is charismatic, witty and spontaneous but, at the same time, unpredictable and quite capable of putting a man in his place.

Troublemaking participants, especially the kind that misbehave with women, can count on getting an earful.

Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh’s hyperactive ways and bizarre wardrobe make him quite a fun choice to host a show that takes pride in negativity and chaos.

Although honestly, we have no idea how the Gunday guy will fare facing the camera for the idiot box.

Monkey around? Make light of everything? Dance to Anil Kapoor songs?

What we are sure of is there will be entertainment, tons and tons of it.

Vidya Balan

For all her sari-clad appearances and critically acclaimed performances, Vidya Balan is quite the cheeky lass.

The Kahaani beauty’s naughty sense of humour, mild irreverence and self-assured poise, often overshadowed by her stature as an actress, could be employed to create something meaty on the small screen.

Also, imagine all those gorgeous Sabyasachi sightings over the weekend.

Amitabh Bachchan

He’s done it before. There’s no reason he cannot do it again.

Amitabh Bachchan lend the third season of Big Boss its first big rush of being hosted by Bollywood’s biggest star.

The Big B’s ability to humour the most awkward situations with as much as a smile, talk business in that imposing baritone and stay unruffled, unbiased and dignified through everything is what makes him a perfect host.

Akshay Kumar

Why should Akshay Kumar host Bigg Boss? Really, you have to ask?

Let’s see. Remember his irresistible magnetism and no-nonsense ways handling a group of girls testing their daredevil side as the star host of Khatron Ke Khiladi? He was both supportive and sneering depending on the need of the hour.

And, boy, does he not get intimidated? That dressing down he gave Karan Johar in his own chat show reiterates he’s tailor-made for the job.

Gauahar Khan

Bigg Boss 7’s glamorous and gutsy winner Gauahar Khan is a complete livewire in front of the camera.

Her articulate, vivacious, bossy point of view is just what Bigg Boss needs.

But is she a big draw enough on her own?

Mallika Sherawat

Bigg Boss Ka Ghar is predominantly inhabited by infamous folk from all walks of life -- loud, shocking, brazen.

If they cannot persuade erstwhile sex symbol Mallika Sherawat to participate as one of the housemates, they can surely get her to host it.

Back in her spicy avatar, when quotable quotes, scanty wardrobe and startling revelations was her thing.

Farah Khan

Not one to hold back, Farah Khan can make mincemeat with words.

Her amusing sense of humour including a delightful ability to take a joke and give it back in kind without getting affected by either is what sets her apart.

And as someone who religiously watches Bigg Boss, season after season, the Happy New Year filmmaker is bound to appreciate the roguish premise of Bigg Boss better than most.

Shabana Azmi

From actress to activist, Shabana Azmi has played many parts in her life.

It would be interesting to see how the powerhouse fares as the socially conscious host of a controversial reality show that mirrors the ugliness of society on a minor level to a million households.

How will her politically aware side react to all the politically incorrect housemates?

But that’s not the tough part.

Getting her to agree is.

Rajat Sharma

Just one episode featuring Rajat Sharma doing his court martial on the celebrity housemates was enough for some viewers to decide he handled it better than Salman Khan in weeks.

At the same time, his razor-sharp observations and terse conclusions didn’t shy from dubbing wrestler Sangram Singh as “thaali ka baingan” or starlet Tanishaa Mukerji as “doormat.”

Okay, so he doesn’t have the glamorous allure of Bollywood stars but he seems like a far better bet than a not-so-deadly Devgn anyway.
