Matthew McConaughey winning the Best Actor award for Dallas Buyers Club came as a surprise to many, including probably the actor himself. Of course, that's not to say that he didn't deserve it.

But the other actors on the list are well-worth the award as well -- Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and Robert Redford (All Is Lost).

12 Years a Slave was nominated in seven categories but it won in only one.

The film has received some brilliant reviews, and evidently, deserves its win.

But the other films in this category are brilliant too.

Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena and Rush are must-watch movies, with powerful performances.

But there were some brilliant actors nominated in this list -- Christian Bale (American Hustle), Bruce Dern (Nebraska), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Joaquin Phoenix (Her).
