Will Salman Khan's Kick break all records at the box office?

Salman Khan's action movie Kick is all set to storm the box office this weekend.

Action movies, incidentally, have done quite well in the past -- from Dhoom 3 to Krrish 3, these movies seem to know how to rake in the moolah.

Here's looking at the 10 most successful action movies in Hindi cinema.

Dhoom 3 
Box office collections: Rs 284 crores.

The biggest action blockbuster has been 2013's Dhoom 3, which is also the most celebrated franchise that Bollywood boasts of today.

Dhoom may have had humble beginnings with Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra battling John Abraham on bikes, but there was a huge rise in fortunes with Hrithik Roshan coming on board in the second installment.

With Aamir Khan, in a double role, the franchise has now become all about the villains.

Chennai Express

Chennai Express is a complete package -- it has action, comedy, romance, music and drama.

But it's a Rohit Shetty film.

So it's obvious that action will take precedence, and that cars would fly, and muscles would enjoy their day in the sun.

Krrish 3

Hrithik Roshan's superhero movie Krrish 3 was a huge hit, but there was a debate whether it earned Rs 178 crores (as indicated by trade pundits) or Rs 245 crores (as declared by the Roshans).

The franchise has grown manifold, and recognised Rakesh Roshan's keen sense of direction.

For Arbaaz Khan, Dabangg 2 was an acid test, as he had to prove himself as a director and also live up to the huge expectations tied to the Dabangg franchise.

Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor were terrific and the film was a super success.

Now, director Karan Malhotra is making another action movie called Warrior.

Even before the arrival of Dabangg, Aamir Khan made a hardcore action film called Ghajini.

A remake of a Tamil film and directed by the same director AR Murugadoss, Ghajini broke many records.

The film had some of the most brutal action scenes seen in a Hindi movie but the audience seemed to approve.

The biggest action hit, of course, remains Ramesh Sippy's iconic Sholay, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan.

Maintaining a cult status for four decades now, the film also holds the record for maximum re-releases at an all-India level.
