Statistical Highlights 5th match (replayed final): India v West Indies at Singapore (Kallang) on 8-9-99Mohandas Menon This match was the 1496th in Limited overs internationals (LOI) history. This match was India's 413th and West Indies's 376th in LOIs. This match was the 60th meeting between the two sides. Brain Lara was appearing in his 150th match of his career. He becomes the ninth West Indian and the 39th player in LOIs to do so. Courtney Walsh's wicket of Tendulkar was the 220th of his career in his 196th match. He now becomes the joint highest wicket-taker for West Indies, equalling teammate Curtly Ambrose's tally of 220 wickets in 165 matches. By dismissing Tendulkar, Walsh equalled the performance of Pakistan's Azhar Mahmood, capturing his wicket on six occasions - the most by any bowler in LOIs. Reon King's ninth wicket (of Ramesh) in this series equals the tally of Sri Lankan Chamida Vaas for the maximum wickets by a bowler in LOIs in Singapore. Dravid (103*), when on 53, reached the 3000th run of his career in his 96th match and 89th innings. He becomes the 11th Indian and the 57th batsman in LOI history to do so. Dravid's hundred was the only third at Singapore and the first at this venue. Dravid's hundred was the first by a 'keeper against the West Indies. The previous highest was the 89 by Zimbabwean Andy Flower at this same venue just a week ago, on 2-9-99. Just for the record, the previous best by an Indian 'keeper against the West Indies was Kiran More's 33 at Nagpur on 8-12-87. Incidentally, it was the second hundred by an Indian 'keeper. Dravid's 145 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in the 1999 WC remains the highest, although Nayan Mongia's 69 against Pakistan at Sharjah on 12-4-96 was the highest by an "full time" keeper from India. It was the 15th hundred in LOIs by a 'keeper. With Dravid now scoring two hundreds in this position, he joins Englishman Alec Stewart who also has two hundreds as a 'keeper. Only Australian Adam Gilchrist, with five hundreds, have scored more than Stewart and Dravid. Dravid now also becomes the highest run-getter this calender year with 1342 runs in 31 matches. He betters the aggregate of Australian Mark Waugh, who has 1308 in 34 matches. Now only Tendulkar 1894 runs (in 1998) and 1611 (in 1996) have scored more in a calendar year than Dravid among Indians. The partnership of 102 between Dravid and Nikhil Chopra (61 - his maiden fifty) was the best for India against West Indies for the 5th wicket, surpassing the previous best of 96 between Navjot Sidhu and Atul Bedade at Faridabad on 17-10-1994. The partnership was also the highest for the 5th wicket at Singapore, bettering the previous best of 71 unbeaten runs between Shivnaraine Chanderpaul and Ricardo Powell against Zimbabwe at this same venue on 2-9-99. Powell's 100, which came in 72 balls (with 7 sixes, 7 fours), equals the fastest by a West Indian in LOIs. Viv Richards, during his innings of 149 also against India at Jamshedpur on 7-12-1983, reached his hundred in 72 balls! Powell (124 in 93 balls, 8 sixes, 9 fours) later emulated Dravid to become the second to score a hundred at this venue. Out of the 51 sixes - the maximum hit in a LOI tournament, outside the World Cup - Powell hit 13, including eight in this match. It equals the maximum hit by a West Indian in a LOI match. Gordon Greenidge (117) had also hit eight against India at St John's on 18-3-1989. By scoring his hundred at the age of 20 years, 267 days, Powell became the youngest to do so for the West Indies. Carl Hooper, when he scored his unbeaten 113 against India at Gwalior on 22-1-1988, was 21 years, 38 days. Interestingly, Powell had replaced Hooper in the West Indies side. The partnership of 118 runs between Powell and Perry was the highest for the West Indies against India for the sixth wicket, obliterating the previous best of 83 (unbeaten) between Carl Hooper and Keith Arthurton at Wellington on 10-3-1992 - in the 1992 WC. The above partnership was also the best for the sixth wicket at Singapore, surpassing the previous best of 92 between Sri Lankan Roshan Mahanama and Hashan Tillekeratne, also against India at the Padang on 3-4-1996. Debasish Mohanty, by capturing the wicket of Powell, emulated Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas and West Indian Reon King by capturing his ninth wicket - the maximum by a bowler at Singapore (see above). It was the West Indies's 14th tournament victory (involving three or more teams) since their first in the 1975 WC. Interestingly, the last occasion the Windies won a LOI tournament was way back in November 1993, when it won the Champions Trophy at Sharjah. West Indies have now extended its unbeaten run of matches to seven (with six wins) against India. Statistics of the abandoned final
