Tendulkar out of Kenya safariSachin Tendulkar will not play in the four-nation one-day series in Nairobi, Kenya. Raj Singh Dungarpur, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, today said Tendulkar spoke to him from Adelaide, where he is undergoing treatment for inflammation of scar tissue in his lower vertebrae, and conveyed his unavailability for the tournament. Dungarpur said Tendulkar officially informed the BCCI that he needs three to four weeks to fully recover from his lower spine injury. "Sachin sounded very relaxed when I spoke to him. He said he needed three to four weeks to get fully fit. Obviously, that rules him out of the Kenya tournament." Dungarpur added: "Sachin intends to stay at the Australian Cricket Academy, where he is consulting doctors, for a couple of days more and then leave for Sydney to consult another specialist before returning home. He said he has already started following the exercises prescribed by the Australian doctors. Ajit Agarkar too has been shown some exercises." Agarkar accompanied Tendulkar to Adelaide and received treatment for the hamstring injury he sustained during the team's conditioning camp in Madras late last month which forced him to miss India's engagements in Sri Lanka. The Indian team for the Nairobi tournament, featuring India, Zimbabwe, South Africa and host Kenya, will be announced in Baroda on September 17. Tendulkar's deputy, Ajay Jadeja, is expected to be named captain if he reports fit. Jadeja was ruled out of the DMC Cup in Toronto following the calf muscle tear sustained at the Singapore Challenge earlier this month. Agencies
