Pak clean sweep Windies

Pakistan made it a clean sweep in the three-match DMC Toronto one-day cricket festival, with a decisive seven-wicket victory over the West Indies yesterday.

Set just 162 to win after another lackluster West Indian batting effort, Pakistan cruised to the target for the loss of just three wickets with more than 10 overs of the 50-over contest to spare

The performances of Pakistan young guns Shabbir Ahmed (3 for 52) and Abdur Razzaq (1-31) were the highlight of the match.

With frontline pacemen Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram given the day off by the Pakistan match committee after the team wrapped up the series on Saturday, Shabbir Ahmed was thrown into the spotlight as opening bowler in his first one-day international.

The 23-year-old, obviously suffering from an attack of nerves, sprayed a number of wides in his first over, including two which raced away to the boundary for four. But he showed why selectors had placed so much faith in him when he struck with his fourth legitimate ball, clean bowling Andy Griffiths for three with the West Indies total on 11, and then grabbed two more wickets.

At the other end, teenage sensation Razzaq, four years Shabbir Ahmed's junior, bowled with both pace and poise.
