Centre tells BCCI to make Chandrachud report public

The Centre has directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India to make public the Chandrachud Commission report on match-fixing.

''The government has written to BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya to make the report public, failing which the government shall do the same,'' Union sports minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa told reporters in Delhi on Tuesday after felicitating the Indian hockey team which won the pre-Olympic tournament in Perth on Sunday.

Dhindsa said the decision whether to hand over the probe to an investigating agency will be taken after his April 27 meeting with former BCCI chiefs, former national cricket team managers and former captains.

Former cricket Test captain Bishen Singh Bedi, who was also present at the function, demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations of match-fixing.

"It is a matter of shame for the cricketing fraternity that such allegations have been levelled against the players. But with the spectacular win of the Indian hockey team at Perth, the nation will now devote their time to hockey rather than cricket,'' Bedi said.

Hockey team coach V Bhaskaran said said: "With the Olympics just five months away, the boys have peaked at the right time.

"The win at Perth was a result of four months' hard work put in by the team and the second phase of training will go on for the next five months.''

The coach said the squad will reassemble in May for a long camp in Bangalore to work on its shortcomings.
