Statistical Highlights 6th match: Zimbabwe v South Africa at Durban, 2-2-2000

Mohandas Menon

This match was the 1555th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

This match was Zimbabwe's 142nd and South Africa's 181st in LOIs.

This match was the 11th meeting between the two sides.

Neil McKenzie became the 59th player to appear for South Africa in LOIs.

Louis Koen was making a come-back to the South African team after playing in two LOI matches (against Australia) in March-April 1997. His last appearance was at Cape Town on 2-4-1997. Since then he has missed 64 matches in between for South Africa.

Lance Klusener's unbeaten 65 was the second highest score by a South African batting at number eight in LOIs. The best still remains as the unbeaten 66 by Shaun Pollock against England at Cape Town on 9-1-1996.

It was also the third highest score by a number eight batsman against Zimbabwe in LOIs. The best still remains as the unbeaten 77 by New Zealander Chris Harris at Bulawayo (QC) on 1-10-1997 and the 67 by Kenyan Tony Suji at Nairobi (Aga) on 16-10-1997.

The partnership of 82 runs between Jacques Kallis and Klusener was South Africa's all-time best for the seventh wicket in LOIs. The pair bettered the previous best of 76 runs put on by Hansie Cronje and Brian McMillan against India at Hyderabad (Ind) on 17-10-1996.

South Africa's previous highest partnership for this wicket against Zimbabwe was the 66 between Daryll Cullinan and Shaun Pollock at Chelmsford on 29-5-1999.

Just for the record, South Africa's previous best partnership for this wicket at home was the 73 between Hansie Cronje and Pollock against Australia at Johannesburg on 8-4-1997.

Grant Flower recorded his 10th duck of his career in his 117th match. He now has the maximum ducks by a Zimbabwe batsman in LOIs. He goes past the tally of 9 ducks by brother Andy Flower.

When he claimed the wicket of Goodwin, Lance Klusener became the fourth South African to take 100 wickets in LOIs. He also becomes the 52nd bowler to do so in LOIs.

He now becomes the 18th all-rounder in LOIs to do the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in LOIs. Only two other South Africans - Shaun Pollock (1211 runs and 122 wickets in 87 matches) and Hansie Cronje (5131 runs and 107 wickets in 176 matches) have achieved this milestone. Klusener now has scored 1878 runs (avg 49.42) and has taken exactly 100 wickets (avg 26.30) in 70 matches.

Klusener who needed 70 matches to achieve this double fell short of the LOI record held by team-mate Shaun Pollock who needed just 68 matches to reach his double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets, against New Zealand at Napier on 26-3-1999.

The partnership of 91 runs between Andy Flower and Guy Whittall was Zimbabwe's all-time best for the seventh wicket against any country in LOIs. The pair bettered the previous best partnership for this wicket which was 81 between Alistair Campbell and Andrew Whittall against India at Sharjah on 11-11-1998.

However the above partnership fell just short by 2 runs of the highest ever for the seventh wicket by any team against South Africa. The best still remains as the 93 between the Sri Lankan pair of Kumara Dharmasena and Lanka deSilva at Lahore on 6-11-1997.

Zimbabwe's previous best partnership for this wicket against South Africa was the 63 between Guy Whittall and Paul Strang at Johannesburg on 31-1-1997.

Andy Flower's 59 was the highest by a Zimbabwe keeper against South Africa in LOIs. The previous best was also by Andy Flower who had scored 29 at Chelmsford on 29-5-1999.

Andy Flower's score was also the first ever fifty by a Zimbabwe captain against South Africa.

South Africa's loss by just two wickets was its narrowest in LOIs. It had lost to Sri Lanka by the same margin at Nairobi on 1-10-1996.

The last ball defeat it was the closest for South Africa in terms of balls in LOIs. South Africa had lost to Sri Lanka with one ball to spare at Wellington on 2-3-1992.

The win by two wickets was Zimbabwe's second narrowest victory in LOIs. It had beaten England by the same margin at Bulawayo (QC) on 15-12-1996.

It was also Zimbabwe's narrowest win in terms of balls against any side in LOIs. Its previous narrowest was its win with three balls to spare against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 25-3-1999.

It was Zimbabwe's only second win over South Africa in LOIs

Andy Flower won his seventh man of the match award of his career in his 130th match. He has now won the maximum such awards by a Zimbabwe player in LOIs. Grant Flower and Paul Strang have won six awards each for Zimbabwe.
