Statistical Highlights 3rd match: New Zealand v West Indies at Napier, 6-1-2000 (d/n)

• This match was the 1534th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was New Zealand's 340th and West Indies' 391st in LOIs.

• This match was the 28th meeting between the two sides.

• This was the 140th match to be played in New Zealand and the 16th to be played at Napier. This was West Indies' first match at this venue.

• Brain Lara was appearing in his 15th LOI match against New Zealand which equals the tally of Courtney Walsh - the maximum matches by a West Indian against the Kiwis.

• Sherwin Campbell became the first batsman in LOI history to be dismissed first ball of the match in successive innings, although on this occasion the first ball of the match was a wide-ball. He also becomes the second West Indian batsman, after Philo Wallace to be dismissed off the first ball of a LOI match on two separate occasions. As on date already 17 batsmen has been dismissed in such a manner on 22 occasions in LOIs. New Zealand's John Wright, Pakistan's Rameez Raja, Sri Lanka's Roshan Mahanama, West Indian Wallace and now Campbell are the only batsmen to be dismissed first ball on two separate occasions.

• Chris Cairns who dismissed Campbell on both the occasions has now become the first New Zealander to capture a wicket off the first ball of the match on two occasions. He joins West Indian Andy Roberts, and Australian Craig McDermott as the only bowlers to do it more than once. McDermott remains as the only bowler to do it on three occasions, while Cairns is the only one to do it in two successive matches.

• Brian Lara during his innings of 28 became the third highest run-getter for the West Indies after Desmond Haynes (8648 runs, avg 41.38 in 238 matches) and Viv Richards (6721, avg 47.00 in 187). He now has 6274 runs (avg 42.68) in 165 matches. He went past Richie Richardson who has 6246 runs (avg 33.40) in 224 matches.

• The catch of Lara off his own bowling was Chris Harris' 50th of his career in his 144th match. He becomes the fourth New Zealander after Martin Crowe (67 catches), John Wright (51) and Stephen Fleming (53), and the 37th fielder in LOIs to do so.

• Harris then claimed his second catch of his own bowling when he held Wavell Hinds. He thus became the only second bowler to do so against West Indies in LOIs. India's Manoj Prabhakar had also taken two catches off his bowling against West Indies at Sharjah on 22-10-1991.

• Harris has also taken his tally of "caught and bowled" to 22 - by far the maximum by any bowler in LOIs. West Indian Roger Harper and Indian Anil Kumble follows him with 16 such dismissals each.

• Harris' two catches equals the maximum taken by a Kiwi fieldsman against West Indies in LOIs. He also became the first Kiwi fieldsman to do so on two occasions. Five other fieldsmen have done it once.

• Adam Parore's three catches has taken his tally of dismissals to 11 - now the maximum by a Kiwi keeper in LOIs against the West Indies. Ian Smith previously had nine dismissals.

• Nehemiah Perry's unbeaten fifty (52) was the highest by a number eight batsman in any LOIs in New Zealand. The previous highest individual score at this position in New Zealand was the unbeaten 42 by home batsman Chris Harris against India at Auckland on 16-1-1999. The previous highest score by a West Indian in New Zealand at number eight was the unbeaten 32 against New Zealand at Auckland on 8-3-1992.

• Perry now becomes the second batsman to score a 50-plus against New Zealand at number eight. India's Sunil Joshi was the first when he scored an unbeaten 61 at Guwahati just over a month ago on 14-11-1999.

• It was Perry's highest score of his career bettering his unbeaten 38 against India at Singapore (Kallang) on 8-9-1999.

• Perry's partnership of 48 with Merv Dillon was West Indies' best against New Zealand for the 8th wicket. It betters the previous best of 40 (unbeaten) between Clive Lloyd and Joel Garner at Nottingham on 16-6-1979. The previous best in New Zealand was the unbeaten 23 between Andy Cummins and Curtly Ambrose at Wellington on 15-1-1995.

• The three wickets by Chris Harris has taken his tally of wickets to 15 against the West Indies - now the maximum by any Kiwi bowler against the Windies. The previous highest was 13 wickets by Gavin Larsen.

• Harris now also has 15 wickets at this venue, the most by any bowler. Dion Nash has 12 wickets.

• The catch of Spearman by Ridley Jacobs' 13th dismissal (12ct+1st). He equals the tally of Jeff Dujon - the maximum by a West Indian keeper against New Zealand in LOIs.

• The partnership of 105 between Nathan Astle and Stephen Fleming equals New Zealand's best against the West Indies for the 2nd wicket, which was between John Wright and Martin Crowe at Auckland on 21-3-1987. Just for the record, New Zealand's previous best for this wicket at this venue was the 76 between Matt Horne and Craig McMillan against India on 12-1-1999.

• The partnership was also the best for the 2nd wicket at this venue. The previous best was the 79 between Englishmen Chris Broad and Tim Robinson on 16-3-1988.

• The West Indies have now lost six consecutive LOI matches since its 130 run loss to Pakistan at Sharjah on 14-10-1999. This is now its worst sequence of defeats in consecutive matches in its LOI history. On six separate occasions the West Indies have lost five matches in a row.

• New Zealand with a three-nil lead has won a LOI series for tirst time against the West Indies.

• Stephen Fleming won his seventh man of the match award of his career in his 117th match. It was his fourth such award as a captain.
