Boje may face arrest in Sri Lanka

By our Special Correspondent

The Sri Lankan police have warned South African authorities that left-arm spinner Nicky Boje may be arrested if he is part of the South African touring party to Sri Lanka early next month. The charge would be his alleged involvement in match fixing in India. If this is to be the case, then Boje may have to withdraw from the team for the series.

The Cape Times quoted officials as having said, " We have been advised by the Sri Lankan police that Nicky Boje could be arrested and we are trying to find a way around the problem. If we cannot get assurances that he will be protected he may have to withdraw from the tour."

Boje is the only one of the five players named by the Delhi police that has been selected to form the South African team. Of the others, besides Hansie Cronje, Herschelle Gibbs was originally selected and subsequently withdrawn due to his involvement in the match fixing scandal. Henry Williams and Pieter Strydom were not selected in the first place.

While an official decision has not yet been made, Boje says that the matter is out of his hands.
