Aggarwal, others hauled to court

The metropolitan magistrate, 33rd court, Ballard Estate, Bombay, today issued summons to Arun Aggarwal, India Today editor Prabhu Chawla and publisher N P Singh, The Indian Express and others on charges of defamation in respect of a criminal complaint filed by Mark Mascarenhas and WorldTel.

Mascarenhas filed the defamation suit after Aggarwal accused him and his company WorldTel of fraud in respect of television rights for the 1997 Independence Cup and 1998 ICC knockout tournament at a press conference in New Delhi on April 27. India Today and The Indian Express reported the allegation.

After perusing the relevant documents, Magistrate A A Walawalkar ordered that summons be issued to the accused.
