Rebello wins international amateur golf

The inaugural International Amateur golf championship, organised by Rotary Club (Noida Central), was held at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Classic Golf Resort Course on Thursday.

The tournament was contested by participants from nine different countries including India and was sponsored by MTNL and Ascom and was managed by Delhi based Tiger Sports Marketing.

In a close competition, Mark Rebello, who had a nett score of 69, the same as Sudhir Agarwal, prevailed on a count back to win the tournament.

The second runner-up was Jasmeet Singh with a score of 71 nett.

The tournament which was played in the stroke play format attracted 62 entries and was inaugurated by Kapil Dev, former India cricket captain and coach.

The best gross score for the leading amateurs was brought in by Amandeep Bath with a score of gross 74. Amandeep made a birdie on the 18th hole to prevail over Kapil Dev, who finished runner-up with a score of gross 75.

The leading lady amateur was Mrs. Soonok Coat with a score of 94. Hazel Ingram claimed the prize for the best overseas participant with a score of 74 nett while Timothy Coats was runner-up with a score of 78 nett.

Other prizes : Roger Mortimer - Longest drive overall
Anil Mehra - closest to the pin overall
Arsh Lal - maximum gross birdies
