Prakash Amritraj of India went down to Nicholas Kiefer of Germany in the second round of the Indianapolis RCA championships on Tuesday.
The Indian lost to the 14th seed 3-6, 1-6.
Earlier, the Indian had defeated Sergio Roitman of Argentina 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the first round match on Monday. He became the only other Indian player after Leander Paes to win an ATP tournament round.
Prakash started off well and was not troubled in his service games. At 2-1, the Indian had two break chances against the German but could not convert them. The German turned tables on Prakash in the seventh game. Thereafter he went on to win eight points in a row and suddenly the Indian was behind 3-5 and serving to stay in the set.
Prakash saved two set points from 30-40 but lost the first set after four dueces.
In the second set, Prakash could not take Nicholas to any break points but he seemed to be consistently taking a couple of points off him in every service game.
He dropped serve twice and held once at love in the second set; both the breaks coming after deuces.
In the doubles, the wild card team of Prakash and Stephen Amritraj will face Nicolas Kiefer of Germany and Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands.
