India romped into the final of the Junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone tennis championship, blanking Japan 3-0 in the semi-finals in Colombo on Friday.

The second seeds will take on top seeds Australia, who got the better of Chinese Taipei 2-1 in the other semi-final.

India proved too strong for the Japanese in the first semi-final, in the morning. Jeevan Neduncheziyan won the opening tie, beating Sho Aida 6-4, 6-0 and Rupesh Roy made the scoreline 2-0 with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Fumiaki Kita.

The doubles combination of Roy and Sanam Singh completed the rout, beating Aida and Kita 6-1, 6-4.

Australia surprisingly met with resistance from sixth seeds Chinese Taipei in the second semi-final in the afternoon.

After Matt Symons easily beat Yao-Cheng Wang 6-4, 6-2, Todd Ley was beaten by Hsin-Han Lee 4-6, 2-6 in the second tie.

But Steven Goh  and Matt Symons combined well in the doubles to beat Hsin-Han Lee and Tung-Han Lee 6-4, 7-6(4) and clinch the issue.

This is the second time India have won a place in the World Group finals, to be played in Spain in September.

Australia, Japan and Chinese Taipei also qualified for the finals.
