Anju Bobby George won the gold medal in the women's long jump at the 16th Asian Athletics Championships in Incheon City, Korea, on Sunday.

The Indian ace, ranked ninth in the world, won India's fourth gold at the meet with her fourth leap, clearing 6.65 metres.

Anju, however, had to face stiff competition from silver medallist Marestella Torres of the Philippines, who ran her close with her final effort of 6.63 metres.

Japan's Kumiko Ikeda claimed bronze with a jump of 6.52 metres.

On Sunday, India also won gold in the 4x400 metres women's relay. The foursome of Rajwinder Kaur, Sati Geetha, Chitra Soman and Manjit Kaur left the field behind and came home in a Championship record time of three minutes 30.93 seconds.

They bettered the previous record of 3:31.30 seconds, set by China.

The silver went to the team from Kazakhstan, which clocked 3:32.61 seconds, while Japan won the bronze in a time of 3:33.54 seconds.

India had earlier won gold medals in the women's 400 metres through Manjit Kaur and the women's heptathlon though Soma Biswas.

Two silver medals also came India's way on Sunday through Navpreet Singh and Santhi Soundarajan.

Navpreet's fifth throw of 19.40 metres, his best effort of the season, placed him just five centimetres behind eventual gold medallist Khaled Al-Suwaidi of Qatar and well clear of Qi Zhang of China, who finished third, clearing 19.02 metres.

Another Indian in the fray, Shakti Singh finished seventh with a best effort of 17.88 metres.

Santhi clocked two minutes 04.01 seconds, her fastest of the season, to follow gold medallist Miho Sugimori of Japan, who finished in 2:01.84 seconds.

The bronze was claimed by Zamira Amirova of Uzbekistan with a timing of 2:04.22 seconds.

Another Indian in the two-lap race, Sinimol Paulose finished seventh with a time of 2:09.73 seconds.

India collected four gold, five silver and four bronze medals from the meet.
