Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra has been approached by the Indo Tibetan Border Police to train its shooters preparing for next year's Commonwealth Games.

The force, which has won several national awards in shooting, has requested the world 10 metre men's air rifle event champion to train and guide the troops who are preparing for the sporting extravaganza.

"We have requested Bindra to train our boys and share vital inputs with our boys when he came to inaugurate a shooting tournament at our training centre a month ago in Chandigarh," Director General of ITBP Vikram Srivastava said.

"We are looking forward for his help," he said. Srivastava also said ace shooter Jaspal Rana has also been requested to share vital inputs with their troops.

The ITBP team will also have an international player on its benches during the Games.

"Our boys have participated and won top positions in various shooting competitions across the country. We want them to earn laurels for the country in the sports weapons category during the Commonwealth Games," he said.

The ITBP, which guards the country's borders with China has a special training component to train its men in games and other adventure sport disciplines.

The ITBP personnel will also participate in Archery, Judo, Karate and ice skating disciplines.
