One minute of fame
George Abraham (executive director, Society for
Communication and Research and pioneer of cricket for the blind
in India) almost didn't make it to the Olympic torch relay. Invited
barely 24 hours before the Indian torch relay team left India,
he caught the flight to Atlanta by the skin of his teeth.
George was a replacement for one of the original set of five torch
bearers who would represent India at the Olympic Games (the torch,
as it made its journey though the United States, would be borne
by hands belonging to varied nationalities). But that did not
diminish the honour of the event.
