Describing Monday's attack on the state legislature in Kashmir as a 'terrible terrorist' and 'heinous' act, United States Secretary of State Colin Powell on Tuesday said, "It is this kind of terrorism that we are united against."
He added, "We are against terrorism, this clearly was an act of terror."
With Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh by his side, he also expressed condolences with victims of the deadly attack.
The US also assured India that its fight against terrorism would include the type New Delhi faces in Kashmir.
"We are going after terrorism in a comprehensive way, not just in the present instance of Al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden, but terrorism as it affects nations around the world to include the kind of terrorism that affects India," Powell said.
Outraged over the attack by Pakistan-based militants, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday had written to President George W Bush saying such incidents raised questions about the country's security and sternly warned Pakistan not to test India's patience.
