Should India experiment so much before the World Cup?

Message: The world cup is just a few months away - and with 12 more matches to go india has decided to start experimenting.Well, one thing is better now than later.Two things which come to mind , firstly the No.3 slot - there was a saying "Put in your best at number 3" not so longago, for it shud be a batsman who is capable of playing a sheet anchor role.A bowling allrounder is what the think tank is looking at for the crucial N0.3 - well its okay if we have the players of the calibre of Kallis, but with Agarkar its certainly putting more pressure on the batsman coming down the order.Chances are that more often than not, he is bound to fail(going by past record and no presumptions here)which would basically mean we are 2 down for nearly the same score.Not much is to be seen into a Holland or Zim match, but then we have Aus Pak and England.We are far from comfortable in playing against these teams(either we dont win or the match is too close).This being the case,not quite sure whether Agarkar (who has a dismal record against these teams) is the right man - frankly dont see anyone else either.And Dravid ideally would be a perfect man to rotate strike, or even a Sachin would be fine. Secondly, Dravid's keeping - Wright is absolutely right when he says that we havent lost a match due to Dravid.Besides it paves the way for one batsman, one excellent fielder and a genuine match winner all in one -Kaif.Besides, it would be better to play it safe and not disturb the existing set up. One more thing i would like to mention is that, what makes us believe that india has been winning consistently abroad - wins over england and westindies?Countries which are no serious contenders for the cup, should not form a basis for opinion formation.Had it been Aus, SAfrica it would have been different - but i believe we are still far away from achieving that status for our bowling department lacks the punch in it. Sehwag,Ganguly, (Dravid/Laxman/Mongia), Sachin,(Laxman/Dravid),Yuveraj,Kaifwith 4 among Srinath/Zaheer/Harbhajan/Nehra/Agarkar forming the final four.Ganguly cud become what he was chosen for - bowling if need be.

Message: Yeah, experimenting too much is going to affect the balance and the morale of the side. I think current batting lineup is perfect but a decision has to be made soon on the third seamer role and he should be groomed soon.

Message: india is the most naive teams of all since god know when ..they play good cricket but their main problem is their attitude , they have a losers attitude . I just fail to understand how they could loose to a team twice after dominating them . This is not the way you reach the top . Saurav i hope you know what i am talking about . Kick the bowlers at the wright spot .

Message: Too much experiementation is counter-productive. The 2-0 loss make it evident how the team gets destabilized without Sachin and Zaheer. A second seamer is vitally required to back up Zaheer. Agarkar batting or bowling has always been a dodgy sitauation. Irfan Pathan should get a game.

Message: dravid should keep the wickets and agarkar is a good allrounder keep faith in him and he will come out victorious on a big day!!!and tendulkar should open the innings on flat surface.

Message: Agarkar does not look like an allrounder.Kaif should be promoted in batting order.The indian batsmaen should try to score each and every ball in oneday matches.Since the bowling is week the score has to be some 300+to have a win .run out is not at all excusable.They should not lose a wicket for the sake of a runin the middle of the innings.Some of the players are wasting the balls by playing defence which is not good for oneday game. This is not a testmatch and alimited 50 overs match.Nehara can be omittedfrom the team.

Message: Dravid is set as wicket keeper batsman, experiment has been done successfully, certainly no point in undoing.If he gives few byes, he is more than capable to recover those runs with his batting. It is silly to experiment with batting order that we have. This is our strength and needs no experimentation.Mongia or Bangar can provide the reserve strength. What we need to do is try out some bowlers, medium pacers preferably. Yohanan, Balaji, Irfan Patel comes to mind. Give these pool of players enough exposure and practice and prepare them as tigers for the world cup. They have to be mentally prepared as very very aggressive bunch, otherwise no matter whatever the talent it will not succeed.

Message: They are doing the right thing by grooming Agarkar as an all rounder. The decision to send him at number 3 was good. He may not neccesarily bat at no 3 in World Cup but a few big knocks before the world cup may boost his confidence, so that he will be able to bat well down the order in crunch situations. Message: Look at Agarkar's record. he plays well in just one match of every series. Mostly the first match. He should go out of the team. Same with kumble. He cant bat. Cant field. Cant bowl in SA. Message: Its better to drop kumble from the team and have parthiv patel as keeper.There is no necessity of Agarkar coming as Pinch hitter since v have yuvraj.The team shud be the one which played in ICC with Agarkar replacing kumble

Message: Yes ! they are experimenting too much .Agarkar is not the all-rounder India is looking for since with the technique he has he cannot succeed in SA pitches.Only in India he can succeed partially. Coming to Dravid it will be at risk if he continues keeping,because one catch missed or a few runs conceeded may cost us dear. Then for everyones information ,how can a time like india be the favourites as they have not bowled out an opposition in its last 8 matches.

Message: I think Dravid is anyway as fine as the others we have, except for Partihiv Patel, wh i do not think is being reckoned as a one day player as yet. Dravid is fine as a wicketkeeper. Agarkar nah he is not an allrounder. But he could be the 4th seamer in SA behind Khan,Srinath and Nehra. Sehwag should learn to handle the quick short pitch stuff quickly. Kallis seems to have sorted him out quickly in Sri Lanka. Otherwise he will one of thos meteors aka Kanitkar etc, who promised much and delivered less. Tendulkar should be at 3. No 4 is too low down the order for hime. He cannot accumulate anyway. That should be left for Dravid and Laxman They are certainly better there. Sehwag Ganguly Tendulkar Dravid Laxman Yuvraj Kaif Harbhajan Srinath Khan Nehra I think we need a medium pacer probably Bangar should fit instead of Harbhajan

Message: Just a simple reply-Agarkar is no way an all rounder.He may have the capacity to bat a bit in india but in south Africa i can already see that he will be a disaster.He experiments too much as a bowler and this will again weight against him.Follow the simple rules is not his virtue.He may have taken wickets at the rate oif around 1 1/2 per match but look at his economy rate-It is in excess of 5.Moreover he is incapble of using the new ball.He needs a ball which is atleast 10 overs old. As far as the dravid experiment goes it has been succesful and my gut feeling is although he may not be a TOP NOTCH PERFORMER behind the stumps he may be the most ideal person considering the success the team has had after this change and also the fact that he has not been too bad behind the stumps. Although this is out of the context i do know that ANIL KUMBLE has been a great performer but will the selectors give him rest for the rest of his life atleast now.He has proved time and again recently that he is the force he was and as a spinner if you have no variation then you will get exposed and slaughtered.Let him cherish the good days he has had instead of being the culprit for indias current failures. A word of advice to the people who matter and who have excellent acumen.DO NOT FORGET SRINATH.

Message: right combination in bowling attack should be given persistant opertunity to combine well with a definate strategy. frequent changes will therefore not help in building confidence. Since world cup is to be played in south africa a combination suiting the conditions there should be developed.

Message: India should experiment a bit inorder to find the right combination, but not to the extent of sending Agarkar at no. 3 or Harbajan ahead of Kaif and Yuvraj. If they bat Kaif or Yuvi at number 3 as an experiment we understand. Also Parthiv Patel should be given a few games in the run-up to world cup. I am not sure if Dravid would be match-fit for all games. We should defintely have a reserve wicket-keeper. Zaheer, Srinath and Nehra should be the attack bowlers with either one of harbajan or kumble, we do not want two spinners. Agarkar/Bangar/Yadav should be the reserve sqUAD.

Message: I think Dravid is the right person for keeping the wickets but he should improve a little bit before the start of World Cup 2003 and Agarkar is also not a bad alrounder only thing is he has to improve in his bowling especially while bowling slog overs at the final stages. He should be very tight while bowling these slog over to any team playing against because most of the runs will be scored in these slog over only. So he should improve his bowling in this particular area.

Message: Yes. India is experimenting too often when its not needed. About Dravid's being made wicket-keeper batsman, its showing some results as it has given Dravid more security in the team and because of which he's making more runs with fewer balls, quite consistently. About Agarkar, he should never be in the team at all. Even if he scores a hundred, he almost gives away those many runs in bowling. Rather it would be wise enough to bring a bowler alone who could give less runs, if not take wickets. Agarkar has been given too many chances and India doesn't need an allrounder, because the batting goes to No.7 now. And, batting has never failed off late, if you see the results. I would say having 7 batsmen, 4 good bowlers should fill the rest. Rather than experimenting on useless notions that we need an allrounder, we better search for 4 good bowlers.

Message: i think this a very good move of experimenting.this is yhe right time @ i think sending in agarkar at onedown will give us an option of extra bowler and he has potential to be good alrounder and also dravid keeping wickets will strenghten the batting and his form is good

Message: Yes, Dravid is the right man for wicketkeeping, and Agarkar is one of the best all rounder in the world, but Ganguly is not giving him chance to play in ODI. Also we need some strike bowler like- Zaheer Khan. I don't know why Kumble & Srinath are still there in the Indian Team, We need some younger bowler and all rounder spinner like sehwag. And Sachin is one of the quality player we have to open the inning with Sachin and Sehwag, but Ganguly is thinking something diffrent about him.

Message: I suppose India should experiment few things before World Cup. We should try out the options like Parthiv Patel as a wicketkeeper , J.P. Yadav as an allrounder etc. That would give us few options during world cup in case if our key player(s) gets injured.

Message: I am a great fan of Indian present cricket team like all other people i too cross my fingers and prey that india should perform brilliently in worldcup if they can carry out the same form they are having till feb.next year.But the point is whether they can carry it or not.From our prev.experience often in the past we have seen that India has lost crunch matches at crutial time because of lack of quality bowlers and all rounders.There are high chances that this time too India have to suffer on this depts..So, i hope India should more concentrate in building a team which mainly consist of atleast three genuine pacers as well as a all-rounder of the calibre of prabhakar ifnot Kapil...
