Form guide: England

Michael Vaughan: A very good batsman, capable of playing authentic shots off even the good balls. He is in good nick just now, which makes him the danger man for India. Plus, he batted very well against the Indian spinners in England. Vaughan is good off the back foot and cuts and pulls with style. Against him, keep two things in mind -- he shuffles a lot initially, and he attacks a lot; both give the bowlers a chance.

Vaughan is in the league of batsmen who, given the least little width outside off stump or drift on leg, will take you for boundaries. Consistent line and length becomes vital and, as with Trescothick, the line just around off, the 'corridor' as it is called, is the best area to bowl to him as it cramps him for room.
