Australia vs Namibia, Potchefstroom

  • Michael Bevan became the only fourth Australian (after Steve Waugh 325, Allan Border 273 and Mark Waugh 244) to appear in 200 LOI matches. He also becomes the 32nd player in LOIs to reach this landmark.
  • Playing in his fifth World Cup match, Matthew Hayden (88) registered his maiden fifty. His previous highest was the unbeaten 45 he made against India at Centurion on 15-2-2003.
  • Incidentally, Hayden's score is now the highest by a visiting batsman at this venue. The previous highest was the 78 by Hayden himself against the home side on 27-3-2002.
  • The 84-run partnership between Andrew Symonds and Damian Martyn was the best for the fifth wicket at this ground. The pair betters the previous best of 42 runs by the South Africans Jonty Rhodes and Lance Klusener against Australia on 27-2-2002.
  •  The unbeaten 70-run stand between Darren Lehmann and Brad Hogg has set a new record for the seventh wicket for the Australians in the World Cup. The pair eclipses the previous best of 55 (unbeaten) runs between Doug Walters and Gary Gilmour against England at Leeds on 18-6-1975.
  • The above stand was now also the best for the seventh wicket at this ground, obliterating the previous best of 30 runs between Bangladesh's Khaled Mashud and Khaled Mahmud against South Africa on 3-10-2002.
  • Lehmann's 28 runs (444646) off medium pacer Rudi van Vuuren was the maximum scored in an over in World Cup history. He betters the previous record of 26 runs (464660) scored by West Indies Brian Lara off the bowling of Canadian left arm spinner Barry Seebaran at Centurion on 23-2-2003.
  • Glenn McGrath's 7-15 was the second best bowling figures in LOI history after the 8-19 by Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas against Zimbabwe at the SSC ground at Colombo on 8-12-2001. However, it was the best performance by a bowler in the World Cup. West Indian Winston Davis had claimed 7-51 against Australia at Leeds on 11-6-1983.
  • The previous best bowling figures by an Aussie bowler has also come in a World Cup match when left arm pace bowler Gary Gilmour had captured six wickets for 14 runs (in 12 overs) against England at Leeds on 18-6-1975.
  • McGrath's previous best career bowling performance also came in the World Cup, when he claimed 5-14 against the West Indies at Manchester on 30-5-1999.
  • With 35 wickets (in 22 matches) to his credit McGrath has now becomes the highest wicket-taker for Australia in the World Cup. He goes past the tally of 32 wickets by Shane Warne (in 17 matches).
  • The six dismissals (all catches) by Adam Gilchrist was the maximum by a keeper in the World Cup. Five other keepers -- India's Syed Kirmani (in 1983), West Indian Jimmy Adams (in 1996), Pakistani Rashid Latif (in 1996), Indian Nayan Mongia and West Indian Ridley Jacobs - have all taken five dismissals each in the World Cup.
  • Gilchrist, meanwhile also equals the wicket-keepeing record for most dismissals in a LOI match . The Aussie keeper (twice before in 2000 and 2003) along with Englishman Alec Stewart (in 2000) and West Indian Jacobs (in 2001) are the three keepers to do so in LOIs.
  • Gilchrist's six catches has taken his tally of dismissals to 259 (222 catches + 37 stumpings) in 151 matches as a keeper. He now has the maximum dismissals by any keeeper in LOI history. He goes past the previous record tally of 257 dismissals (191 cts + 66 sts) by Pakistani Moin Khan (in 182 matches).
  • Gilchrist's six catches also makes the Aussie keeper with most dismissals in the World Cup. Playing in his 12th World Cup match Gilchrist now has 24 dismissals (20 cts + 2 sts), which takes him past the tally of 21 dismissals (18 cts+ 3 st) in 14 matches by Ian Healy.
  • Namibia's 45 was now the lowest total ever made by any team against Australia. India were dismissed for 63 by the Aussies at Sydney on 8-1-1981.
  • Namibia's 45 in 14 overs was the shortest innings in LOI history. Zimbabwe were routed for 38 runs in 15.4 overs against Sri Lanka at SSC, Colombo on 8-12-2001.
