Statistical Highlights 35th match: Australia v Zimbabwe at Lord's, London on 9-6-1999

• This match was the 1477th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 193rd in World Cup history.

• This match was Australia 432nd and Zimbabwe 124th in LOIs. Australia has now equals the record of Pakistan of having appeared in maximum LOI matches.

• This match was Australia's 44th and Zimbabwe's 33rd in the WC.

• It was their 12th meeting in LOIs and their 7th in the WC.

• This match was the 25th LOI and the 9th in the WC to be played at this venue.

• This venue had hosted the first encounter in this WC between England and Sri Lanka on 14-5-1999.

• Andy Flower was appearing in his 21st match and has now played in maximum matches for Zimbabwe in the WC.

• Steve Waugh was appearing in his 30th WC match. He equals the tally of Sri Lankan Arjuna Ranatunga. Now only Pakistani Javed Miandad has played more - 33 matches.

• Adam Gilchrist (10) on 4, became the 12th Australian and 82nd batsman in LOI history to reach 2000 runs. He was playing in his 65th match and 63rd innings. Interestingly, the last two batsmen before Gilchrist to achieve this landmark were also wicket-keepers - Sri Lankan Romesh Kaluwitharana and Pakistani Moin Khan. They did so during this WC.

• Mark Waugh (104) on 35, became the highest run-scorer for Australia in his 188th match. He bettered the previous best of 6524 runs in 273 matches by Allan Border.

• M Waugh's hundred was his fourth in the WC. Its the maximum scored by any batsman in the WC. West Indian Viv Richards, Pakistani Rameez Raja and Indian Sachin Tendulkar have all scored three WC hundreds each.

• It was his 12th LOI hundred of his career. He now holds the unique distinction of scoring hundreds against nine different countries. The break-up of which is as follows: New Zealand (3), South Africa (2) and single hundreds against England, India, Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and now Zimbabwe. However, he has no hundreds against Bangladesh (highest: 33) and Scotland (67).

• M Waugh's 104 was the highest by an Australian against Zimbabwe in the WC. David Boon's 93 at Cuttack in the 1987 WC was the previous highest.

• Although 152 runs were added for the third wicket, only 129 runs were put on by the Waugh twins, after 23 runs were added between Mark Waugh and Darren Lehmann (retired hurt). The partnership of 129 runs was Australia's best against Zimbabwe in the WC. It obliterates the 113 put on by Geoff Marsh and Allan Border at Chennai in the 1987 WC.

• Lehmann became the first ever batsman to be "retired hurt" in any LOI match against Zimbabwe. It also provided the fifth instance of an Australian batsman being "retired hurt" in LOIs. The other Australians being Rodney Hogg, Graeme Wood (twice) and Steve Waugh. Incidentally, Lehmann also became the second Australian (after Wood in 1983) and 10th batman in the WC to do so.

• Australia's total of 303-4 was the second highest in any LOIs played at this venue after England's 334-4 against India on 7-6-1975 - the first day of the inaugural WC. However England's effort came in a 60-over match. Just for the record, the previous highest total at this venue in a 50-over LOI match was the 270-4 (in 49 overs) by England on 25-5-1997 after Australia batting first had scored 269 runs.

• Incidentally, Australia's previous highest total against Zimbabwe was 294-3 at Delhi on 11-4-1998.

• Murray Goodwin (47) on 4 reached his 1000th run in his 38th match and innings. He becomes the seventh Zimbabwean and 133rd batsman in LOI history to do so.

• The partnership of 114 runs between Neil Johnson and Goodwin.

It was Zimbabwe's best against Australia for the 2nd wicket in LOIs. The previous best being the 96 between Grant Flower and Goodwin at Delhi on 11-4-98.

• It was also Zimbabwe's best in the WC for the 2nd wicket against any country. The previous best being the 81 runs between Kevin Arnott and Ali Shah against New Zealand at Calcutta in the 1987 WC.

• It also betters Zimbabwe's best for the 2nd wicket against Australia in the WC which was the 34 runs between Andy Pycroft and Kevin Curran at Cuttack in the 1987 WC.

• The partnership of 34 runs between Neil Johnson and Alistair Campbell was Zimbabwe's best against Australia for the fourth wicket in LOIs. The previous best was the paltry 18 runs between Robin Brown and Houghton at Southampton on 16-6-1983.

• Neil Johnson's unbeaten 132 was the highest by any batsman against Australia in the WC. The previous highest was the 130 by New Zealander Chris Harris at Chennai in the 1996 WC .

• It was the highest by a Zimbabwean against Australia in LOIs. The previous highest was the 102 by Alistair Campbell at Ahmedabad on 3-4-1998.

• It was also the highest against Australia in the WC. The previous best was the 84 by Dave Houghton at Southampton in the 1983 WC.

• His hundred was the third of his career in 21 matches. He now joins Grant Flower and Alistair Campbell with maximum hundreds for Zimbabwe.

• Johnson's hundred and two wickets in the match also provided the 22nd instance of an all-rounder scoring a hundred and capturing two or more wickets in LOIs. Johnson infact joins Tendulkar to do it on two occasions. The only other player to do it on more occasions - four - was West Indian Viv Richards.

• Johnson also becomes the only third player to do the above in the WC. Pakistani Aamer Sohail (114 & 2-26) in 1992 and Sri Lankan Aravinda deSilva (107* & 3-42) in 1996 were the only others to do so.

• It was Johnson's 5th Man of the match award of his career. It was his third in WC - the maximum by a Zimbabwean player. Houghton had two in WC. All his three awards came in this WC.
