Statistical Highlights 5th match: West Indies v Pakistan at Bristol, 16-5-1999

• This match was the 1447th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 163rd in World Cup history (including the original abandoned match between these two teams at Patna in 1996).

• This match was West Indies' 368th and Pakistan's 426th in LOIs.

• This match was the 85th between the two sides in LOIs, and the seventh meeting in the WC between the two sides. Only the West Indies and Australia have met on more occasions - 91.

• This match was West Indies' and Pakistan's 38th in the WC.

• The County Ground, Nevil Road at Bristol (Gloucester) was hosting its only second LOI match. The last match was played way back during the 1983 World Cup when New Zealand met Sri Lanka on 13-6-1983.

• Australian Darrell Hair was officiating in his 44th LOI match, while South African Dave Orchard was umpiring in his 41st match.

• Ricardo Powell became the 94th player to represent West Indies in LOIs. Incidentally, he becomes the only fifth player from the West Indies to make his debut in a World Cup match. The others being Grodon Greenidge, Viv Richards and Andy Roberts in 1975 and Phil Simmons in 1987.

• Ijaz Ahmed (36) on 14 reached his 6000th run in his 227th match and 210th innings. He becomes the fourth Pakistani, after Javed Miandad (7381 runs in 233 matches), Salim Malik (7152, 279) and Saeed Anwar (6182, 171). Ijaz at the end of the match has 6022 runs to his credit in 227 matches.

• Inzamamul Haq was dismissed of the "first-ball" for the second time in a WC match. He was dismissed "first-ball" against England at Adelaide during the 1992 World Cup match (c A Stewart b P DeFreitas).

• The fifth wicket partnership of 60 runs between Ijaz Ahmed and Yousuf Youhana was Pakistan's best against West Indies in the WC. It betters the previous best of 47 between Javed Miandad and Wasim Raja at Birmingham in the 1975 edition.

• The partnership of 74 runs between Azhar Mahmood and Wasim Akram was Pakistan's best for the seventh wicket in the WC. It obliterates the previous best of 52 between Asif Iqbal and Wasim Raja against England at Leeds in 1979. However the pair fell short of the Pakistan best against West Indies in LOIs which still remains as 80* between Javed Miandad and Salim Yousuf at Gujranwala on 4-11-1986.

• Wasim Akram's 42 was his highest score in 23 WC matches. His previous best being 39 made against Sri Lanka at Faisalabad in the 1987 WC.

• Debutant Powell conceded 16 runs in his very first over of his career. Australian David Boon bowling for the first time in a WC match had conceded 17 runs in his first over against Zimbabwe at Cuttack in 1987 WC.

• Arthurton, Adams and Powell conceded 83 runs in 10 overs - which was the turning point of this match.

• Pakistan's total of 229-8 was the highest at this ground in LOIs. New Zealand had made 209-5 in 39.2 over against Sri Lanka in 1983 WC.

• The 19 run partnership for the 8th wicket between S Chanderpaul and Keith Arthurton was West Indies' best against Pakistan in a World Cup match. The previous best was 15 between Deryck Murray and Keith Boyce at Birmingham in 1975.

• Chanderpaul (77) achieved his third consecutive fifty in the World Cup. In his last two innings during the 1996 World Cup he scored 56 and 80 against South Africa at Karachi and against Australia at Mohali respectively.

• The 74 extras in this match was a World Cup record. The previous highest was 61 between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Perth in the 1992 World Cup.

• West Indies' total of 202 was the lowest at this venue.

• This was Pakistan's only second victory against West Indies in the WC in seven matches. Pakistan's only other victory came at Lahore in the 1987 WC when it won by just 1 wicket and of the last ball of the match.

• Azhar Mahmood playing in his 61st match won his second Man of the match award.
