Statistical Highlights 22nd match: West Indies v Scotland at Leicester on 27-5-1999

• This match was the 1464th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

• This match was the 180th in World Cup history.

• This match was West Indies' 371st and Scotland's 4th in LOIs.

• This match was West Indies' 41st and Scotland's 4th in the WC.

• This match was the first meeting between the two sides in LOIs and in the WC.

• The County Ground, Grace Road at Leicester (Leicestershire) was hosting its third LOI match. The other two matches played here have been between India and Zimbabwe in 1983 and 1999.

• JG Williamson became the 13th Scottish player to make debut. • Scotland's total of 68 was the second lowest in the WC.The lowest still remains as 45 by Canada against England at Manchester in the 1979 WC. It was the lowest total in the WC since West Indies' 93 against Kenya at Pune in the previous WC in 1996. Just for the record, England's 103 against South Africa at the Oval was the previous lowest in this WC.

• It was the third lowest total by any team against the West Indies in LOIs. The previous lowest being 43 by Pakistan (which incidentally is the lowest in LOIs) at Cape Town on 25-2-1993 and the 55 by Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 3-12-1986. However, it was the lowest by any team against West Indies in the WC. The previous lowest being the 86 by Sri Lanka at Manchester in the 1975 WC.

• The partnership of 20 runs between Gavin Hamilton and Asim Butt was Scotland's best so far for the ninth wicket. The previous best was just 11 runs between the same pair against Pakistan at Edinburgh on 24-5-1999.

• By taking four catches in the match, West Indian keeper Ridley Jacobs has now taken nine catches in two successive matches. The only other keeper to do so was South African Dave Richardson who against Zimbabwe at Harare on 21-10-1995 and 22-10-1995 had taken five and four catches respectively in the successive matches. Ridley in his last match against New Zealand at Southampton on 24-5-1999 had taken five catches.

• Stuart Williams becomes the ninth fielder to take three catches - the most by a fielder in a WC match. He becomes the second West Indian after Clive Lloyd (v Sri Lanka at Manchester, 1975) to do so in a WC match.

• Walsh's figures of 3 for 7 was the best figures against Scotland bettering the previous best of 3-11 by Pakistani Shoaib Akhtar at Chester -le- Street on 20-5-1999.

• Courtney Walsh with three wickets in this match has taken his tally of wickets to 27 in 16 matches to become the highest wicket-taker for the West Indies in the WC. Andy Roberts had earlier taken 26 wickets in 16 matches.

• Walsh now joins Curtly Ambrose with 217 wickets as the joint highest wicket-taker for West Indies in LOIs. Walsh was playing in his 192nd match, while Ambrose was playing his 164th match.

• Ambrose's figures of 10-4-8-2 equals the most economical 10-over spell by a bowler in the WC. It equals Englishman Chris Old's figures of 10-5-8-4 against Canada at Manchester on 13-6-1979.

• West Indies' win with 239 balls to spare was the largest ever victory in LOIs in a 50-over match. The previous such win came from Kenya when it beat Bangladesh with 198 balls to spare at Nairobi (Aga Gym) on 15-10-1997. Actually the largest victory with maximum balls to spare was 277 when England beat Canada in the 1979 WC at Manchester. However, this was a 60-over a side match.

• This match lasted just three hours, making it the shortest ever in LOI and WC history. The previous shortest LOI being when Australia beat India at Sydney on 8-1-1981. This match lasted just three hours and 26 minutes, while the shortest WC match was when England beat Canada on 14-6-1979. This match lasted for three hours and 35 minutes.

• The Man of the match award was Courtney Walsh's fifth in a LOI match. He had won another such award against Bangladesh at Dublin during this WC.
