City of Stars is truly shining for La La Land. And how!

09:32   Lifetime Achievement winner Streep's speech is highlight of the ceremony
'She is an observer and a thief. She reveals what she has stolen on that sacred place which is the screen. She makes the most heroic characters vulnerable, the most known familiar, the most despised relatable. Dame Streep.

Her artistry reminds us of the impact of what it means to be an artist, which is to make us feel less alone. I can only imagine where you go, Meryl, when you disappear into a character. I imagine that you are in them, patiently waiting, using yourself as a conduit, encouraging them, coaxing them to release all their mess, confess, expose, to live.

You are a muse. Your impact encouraged me to stay in the line, Dame Streep. I see you. I see you.'

Wow. Viola Davis pays a rousing tribute to this year's Cecile B. DeMille recipient, Meryl Streep, gold standard in acting, living legend, everyone's favourite actress, the list goes on.

Streep's poignant speech, which addresses America's 'Trump' state of mind, is no less transfixing.

'Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you'll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts.'

09:13   All hail the Queen!
Best Actress Claire Foy can hardly catch her breath after winning for her layered portrayal of a young, inexperienced sovereign in the lavish Netflix series, The Crown.

I really, really, really, wouldn't be here if it wasn't for some extraordinary women, and I'm gonna thank them. One of them is Queen Elizabeth the second.

The Crowns glorious run continues with a Best TV Series (Drama) victory.

08:43   The La La Land leading man dedicates his win to bro-in-law
Hilarious duo Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn take their sweet time to announce Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy but when the name is Ryan Gosling, its totally worth it.

In a rather touching speech, Gosling dedicated his win to the memory of his brother-in-law Carlos Mendes

While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady (wife Eva Mendes) was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't taken all that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me. So sweetheart, thank you.

08:17   Laurie at his humorous best!
Bravo Bertie! Hugh Laurie ousts tough competition to walk away with the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Television Series for his knockout performance in The Night Manager. Here's what he has to say:

"I suppose this is made more amazing by the fact that Ill be able to say I won this at the last ever Golden Globes. I dont mean to be gloomy. Its just that it has the words Hollywood press in the title. I suppose to some republicans even the word association is a bit sketchy."  Haha.

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon pair up to present the Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Sarah Paulson, who recently won an Emmy for  The People v. O.J. Simpson, doesn't seem too surprised either.
