Hemang Badani was dropped by New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming at mid-on off the bowling of medium-pacer Daryl Tuffey even as the Indians were starting to force the pace.

The left-hander tried to clear the 30-yard circle but only managed to hit it as far as Fleming, positioned at the edge of the circle, who managed to get his fingertips to the ball, but failed to hold on.

India were 193 for 5 (42.5) and Badani was not out on 35.
