Days after blogging about her cancer, Lisa Ray was spotted at the gala presentation of her English-language film Cooking With Stella during the 34th Toronto International Film Festival in Toronto, on Wednesday.
We almost didn't recognise the 37-year-old actress, who plays a diplomat stationed at the Canadian high commission in New Delhi.
Cooking with Stella is written by siblings Deepa Mehta and Dilip Mehta. The latter has also directed it.
Dilip Mehta says that food serves 'as a central metaphor in the movie, a cultural unifier and bridge between characters.'
Don McKellar, who plays Lisa' husband Michael in the movie, accompanied Ray on the red carpet.
The light-hearted comedy which was shot in New Delhi, revolves around a cook Stella, played by Seema Biswas who teaches Don Indian cooking.
Shriya Saran, who also has a role in the movie, decided to go traditional in this fetching sari.
Shriya wasn't the only one who decided to go traditional. Seema Biswas, whose spontaneous performance in the movie has already received rave reviews with a Canadian paper calling her 'superb', looked smart in a black sari.
Shriya and Biswas made a rather novel appearance by arriving at the venue in a rickshaw.
Dilip Mehta also put in an appearance.
The 57-year-old photographer-turned-director says that much of the film 'is based on my experiences living in Delhi, and my fascination with how different cultures interact.'
