Elsewhere in Mumbai, John Abraham and Dino Morea were among the celebrities who welcomed the 'Marathon Flame', the closely guarded and protected property of Greece, where the Marathon was born, as a lead up to the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on January 17.
The historic flame was brought to Mumbai by Maria Polyzou, the ex-Marathon champion from Greece, and was handed over to Shailaja Girkar, the Deputy Mayor of Mumbai and Marathon ambassador John.
The first leg of the marathon flame run was spearheaded by John from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport, and was then carried on by Congress member Priya Dutt and actor Dino Morea at Bandra Reclamation.
At Hutatma Chowk, in South Mumbai, the torch was lit on a specially erected 15-foot high platform by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Works Anil Deshmukh and Maria Polyzou.
The torch will alit until January 17.
