Of broken dreams and interrupted lives. Of men hit in the prime of their youth and sentenced to a lifetime of misery, of dependence. Of ruins of fighting men, wrecks of dynamic soldiers. This is the world which Rediff On The NeT's Chindu Sreedharan and photographer Jewella C Miranda visited, at the army's Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Khadki, in Pune. The world of Antony, Anil Kumar and Hariram Kohli -- a world of courage, of compassion, of endurance. Where 75 residents -- including 30 married invalids -- struggle to lead as normal a life as possible with their disability. But this world -- crippled as it is -- may now come crashing down on many of the inmates as the army fights a losing battle with the authorities for funds. Page design: Rajesh Karkera
